First things first....It's my son's birthday this weekend. Both my husband and son enjoy leather tooling. So DH decided to make DS a table that would also hold most of the tools he needs for his projects.
The table has to have a solid surface and marble is the way to go. A marble slab from a re-use store, wood from the local hardware, a trip to my father-in-law's to use his table saw, lots of glue, screws, stain and varnish, and here's the birthday present! Complete with a drawer and lots of holders.
And this table won't be tipping over when one of DS's cats decide to assist with the leather tooling! It's happened and falling marble can cause damage!
The first quilt I finished this past week had been waiting to be quilted for a long time. The blocks came from an internet swap. I couldn't decide how to put the blocks together. There comes a time when you just need to do it to get the quilt out of the sewing room. At that point you really don't care what the design is. Just get it done.
Because I haven't done any long arm quilting the finished product leaves much to be desired. Tension is off and it would take more than a bit of appliqué to hide all the problem areas. But it's done. I'm sure there is a dog or cat somewhere that will enjoy curling up on it.
The next quilt top happened when I was cleaning my sewing room (yet again) and found a bag of fabric and a magazine from 2003. Apparently I had intended on making a quilt shown in the magazine with butterfly fabric and a silhouette of a cat. Well it didn't happen.
I felt the fabric had sat in a grocery bag for way too long so I made a shadow quilt top. The idea came from Pinterest...a very dangerous place! How to quilt it? Again from Pinterest came the idea of just sewing straight lines.
There are many ways of doing this but I took the crazy lazy way. I drew the lines using Crayola Washable Markers. The crazy part is that I used purple markers on off white fabric. The quilt just came out of the washer and dryer....no sign of purple marker can be seen. So maybe it wasn't so crazy after all.
Next quilt to work on is a scrappy jelly roll race. It's a practice quilt to make sure I have all the tension issues worked out before working on a quilt top that has been waiting a very long time to be quilted.
